An iPhone connected to airPods
  • Apple introduced USB-C connector to their new electronic devices on September 12th.
  • This was mandated by European regulators who pushed the iPhone maker to adopt the USB-C connector instead of the Lightning which they had used for more than a decade on their devices.
  • Apple introduced the iPhone 15 range of phones with a USB-C port, instead of their proprietary Lightning port.

Apple held its annual product launch event Tuesday, September 12th , at Apple Park, the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California.

Apple finally introduced a USB-C port to the iPhone 15. However, the company is also introducing several accessories to for fast charging speeds or data transfer as well.

Apart from the new iPhone 15 range of smartphones, the company is introducing a slew of accessories that support USB-C:

  • EarPods: $19
  • AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C charging case: $249
  • 60W USB-C to USB-C cable with USB 2.0 data transfer speeds: $19
  • 240W USB-C to USB-C cable with USB 2.0 data transfer speeds: $29
  • USB-C to Lightning adapter for older accessories: $29

Since Apple is switching to USB-C charging with the iPhone 15, users’ old Lightning cables will no longer work. Which means customers having to shell more to get new cables.
