China’s IT Times reported on 19 Sept. that Huawei may launch a mid-range 5G phone as soon as October. This would be monumental, as the company has been facing challenges to compete with the latest bleeding edge technology in smartphones whilst navigating sanctions from the U.S.
The IT Times cited industrial supply chain sources on the news. Stating that Huawei may launch a 5G version of its mid-ranged Nova.
Huawei launched the Mate 60 Pro smartphone in August, which showed a huge leap forward for the Chinese chipmaking capabilities. Research firms found that the phone is powered by a domestically-made 7-nanometer processor that is 5G capable.
The Mate 60 Pro was released with little advertising or prior notice and the model has been released in limited number so far. The company is expected to give more details on the Mate 60 Pro at a product launch event on Sept. 25.
